Weezer Allentown Fair 9/1/10
My 15-year-old and I, both long-time fans of Beck, had a special night, having never seen him before. Beck delivered what the crowd wanted, providing a lot of fun and pure Beck. The 75-minute set included all the favorite songs and a track from their upcoming album. I couldn't have asked for a better show from Beck, and my son loved it. Looking forward to the next time.
Next time, my only suggestion would be to have more Beck and less of the opening act.
The hardest part of the night was enduring a 60-minute set by Gaslight Anthem. In my opinion, 60 minutes is too long for an opening act, unless they are a much bigger draw. Gaslight Anthem seemed like a budget version of The Replacements with a hint of Springsteen. While I appreciate Westerberg and The Mats, Gaslight Anthem's songwriting didn't reach the same level. My son and I found every song to be monotonous with little variation. Also, their lead guitar player spent more time facing away from the audience than I have ever seen, except for Stuart Sutcliffe from the Beatles' Hamburg era.
